Due to overwhelming demand the National Portrait Gallery has released 7,000 extra tickets for Lucian Freud Portraits through extended opening hours.
Since it opened last month Lucian Freud Portraits has been one of the gallery’s most popular exhibitions and has already welcomed over 50,000 visitors.
The NPG have announced that the exhibition will now open until 9pm every Saturday from 24 March until 26 May, in addition to its late-night openings on Thursdays and Fridays.
Considered one of Britain's foremost portrait artists, Freud died in July 2011 at the age of 88.
With 130 paintings and works on paper loaned from museums and private collections throughout the world, Lucian Freud Portraits is the result of many years' planning by the Gallery, in close partnership with the artist before he died.
The unfinished portrait on which Lucian Freud was still working before his death in July last year is one of the highlights of the show.
As well as the newly-released allocation, tickets are still available for a number of timed entry slots (also on the gallery’s website or by phone) for dates in April and May.
Advance tickets for admission throughout the run are available in person from the Ticket Desk in the Gallery and at least 500 are available every day for on-the-day admission to walk-in visitors.
